How do we know that we are redeemed?

Answered in 2 sources

Believers find assurance of their redemption through faith in Jesus Christ and the witness of the Holy Spirit.

Assurance of redemption is rooted in the believer's faith in Jesus Christ. According to covenant theology, redemption was established in eternity past, as illustrated by God's declaration in Isaiah 63:4 where His people are referred to as 'my redeemed'. This identification as the redeemed affirms that believers were chosen and set apart for salvation from the foundation of the world.

Furthermore, the Holy Spirit plays a vital role in confirming this redemption in the hearts of believers. Through the indwelling of the Spirit, Christians receive inner testimony and conviction that they belong to Christ and are partakers of His grace. This assurance is reinforced through the realization of God's love and faithfulness in one's life, leading the believer to an authentic expression of their identity in Christ.

In applying these truths, believers are encouraged to actively live out their identity as the redeemed by seeking a deeper relationship with their Redeemer. This call to action includes repentance, prayer, and cultivating an understanding of God's Word. Such practices reaffirm their standing as those chosen by God and further confirm the hope found in their redemption, making it both a present reality and a future promise.
