How do we know that we are righteous before God?

Answered in 1 source

We know we are righteous before God through faith in Christ, who became sin for us to make us righteous (2 Corinthians 5:21).

Our righteousness before God is entirely dependent on our faith in Jesus Christ. According to 2 Corinthians 5:21, 'For he made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.' This means that Christ took on our sinfulness, allowing us to receive His righteousness as a gift. By trusting in His work, rather than our own merits, we are declared righteous in God's sight. Thus, our assurance of righteousness rests in Christ alone, highlighting the essence of sovereign grace theology, which teaches that salvation is entirely through faith and grace.
