How do we know that we are righteous in Christ?

Answered in 2 sources

Scripture assures believers that they are righteous in Christ due to His atoning sacrifice, which cleanses them from sin and grants them perfect acceptance before God.

The assurance of righteousness in Christ is found throughout Scripture, particularly in Hebrews 10:14, which states that by one offering, Christ has perfected forever those who are sanctified. This means that the righteousness that believers possess is not earnestly earned but graciously given through faith in Christ. This transformative truth removes the guilt and fear of sin by affirming that we are seen as righteous by God because we are united with Jesus, who is holy and perfect.

In addition, 1 John 4:17 emphasizes that believers can have confidence on the day of judgment because, as Christ is, so are we in this world. Our standing before God is based on Christ's merit, which allows us to approach Him without fear, fully accepted and secure in His love. This fundamental understanding is crucial for spiritual growth and perseverance in faith.
