How do we know that we are saved by grace and not by works?

Answered in 4 sources

Scripture teaches that salvation is a gift from God, not a result of our works, so that no one can boast (Ephesians 2:8-9).

Salvation by grace, rather than by works, is a core tenet of Christian faith rooted in Scripture. Ephesians 2:8-9 underscores that we are saved through faith, and this is not of ourselves; it is the gift of God. Paul, in Galatians, articulates that our righteousness comes from faith in Christ and not from our execution of the law. This understanding of grace stresses that our salvation cannot be earned through good works, as our efforts would ultimately fall short of God's perfect standard. Instead, we rely on the merit of Christ's work on the cross, receiving salvation as an unmerited gift.
