How do we know that we are the sons of God?

Answered in 1 source

We know we are the sons of God by the witness of the Holy Spirit within us and by our responses to God's guidance in our lives.

The assurance of being a son of God comes from Romans 8:16, which states that the Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit that we are the children of God. This inner testimony is also coupled with the transformative effect of the Holy Spirit, leading us towards Christ and producing the fruits of the Spirit in our lives. Furthermore, our behavior, characterized by love for others and an inclination towards righteousness, serves as confirmation of our identity as sons. The nature of being a son of God involves a spiritual transformation, indicating that we must possess the nature of God that reflects holiness, love, and obedience.
