How do we know that we have died to sin?

Answered in 1 source

We know we have died to sin because Christ's sacrifice signifies our justification and liberation from sin's power.

In Romans 6, Paul explains that believers are baptized into Christ's death, signifying that just as Christ died, we also died to our sin nature. This death is not merely hypothetical but is grounded in the reality of our union with Christ. Because of this union, we participate in His righteousness and, therefore, we are dead to sin's guilt. This understanding helps us to recognize that our former life of sin has been replaced by a new identity in Christ. Consequently, we are called to consider ourselves dead to sin and alive to God through Jesus Christ, which serves as motivation for righteous living.
