How do we know that we have genuine faith?

Answered in 1 source

Genuine faith is evidenced by a broken heart over sin, hunger for righteousness, and continuous reliance on Christ, as seen in the self-examination process.

To determine whether we possess genuine faith, we must examine our hearts and consider specific indicators of true faith in Christ. Paul outlines in his message to the Corinthians that we should look for several signs, such as having a heart that is broken over personal sin and recognizing our inability to save ourselves. A genuine believer will have a deep desire for the righteousness that only Christ can provide and will consistently come to Him, casting their hopes and trust upon Him rather than their own works or merits.

Additionally, we are encouraged to examine whether we have faith in the Lord Jesus, characterized not merely by adherence to doctrine but by a personal relationship with Him. The existence of faith is not just about knowledge; it’s about the heart’s posture towards Christ and the indwelling assurance that He is alive in us. When Christ dwells in our hearts, we will know it, as His presence transforms our lives and desires, demonstrating that our faith is not counterfeit but genuine, founded on the work of the Holy Spirit in us. Thus, a consistent examination of these attitudes is critical to affirming the authenticity of our faith.
