How do we know that we need perfect obedience to enter heaven?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible specifies that our righteousness must exceed that of the scribes and Pharisees to enter the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 5:20 states, 'For I say unto you, that except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.' This underscores the standard of righteousness that God requires. The scribes and Pharisees exemplified a false confidence in the law, leading to a perception that one could attain righteousness through self-effort. However, true righteousness is only found in Christ, who fulfilled the law completely. Without His perfect obedience credited to us through faith, none of us can stand justified before God.
