How do we know that we should imitate Christ?

Answered in 1 source

We know we should imitate Christ because scripture commands us to and demonstrates His love as the model for our actions.

The call to imitate Christ is seen throughout Scripture, such as in Ephesians 5:1, where we are told to be imitators of God as dear children. This imitation is founded on love and a desire to reflect Christ's characteristics in our own lives. Furthermore, 1 Peter 2:21 points out that Christ left us an example to follow in His steps, particularly focusing on His unconditional love and sacrificial nature. Thus, the command to imitate Christ is rooted in our relationship with Him and His embodiment of divine love, which we are called to express in our actions.
