How do we know that worship requires us to be clean?

Answered in 1 source

Scripture asserts that we must stand before God in perfect cleanness, which comes only through Christ's atonement for our sins.

In Leviticus 22:4, it is made clear that no one can eat of the holy things or worship at God's altar unless they are clean. This principle is echoed in our understanding of worship in the New Covenant, where Christ's blood provides the means of our cleansing. Our innate sinfulness disqualifies us from approaching a holy God without the perfect righteousness of Jesus. Therefore, the requirement to be clean is not simply an Old Testament precept but is foundational for all genuine worship, emphasizing that our access to God is solely through Christ's redemptive work.
