How do we know the consequences of adultery are severe?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible provides multiple accounts illustrating the severe consequences of adultery, including Solomon's own downfall (1 Kings 11:1-6).

Scripture illustrates the harsh realities of adultery through the example of King Solomon, whose numerous foreign wives turned his heart away from the Lord, leading him into idolatry and away from God’s covenant. This not only brought personal ruin upon Solomon but also led to significant national consequences for Israel. The warnings in Proverbs serve to caution us not only about the immediate consequences but also about how such actions can bind us in a cycle of remorse and regret. The text warns that going down the path of adultery leads to loss of honor, wealth, and ultimately, a life filled with mourning for the waste of one’s life and opportunities (Proverbs 5:10-11).
