How do we know the devil is real?

Answered in 3 sources

Biblical accounts throughout both the Old and New Testaments affirm the reality of the devil as a person and an adversary to God.

The existence of the devil is affirmed in Scripture, where he is depicted not merely as an abstract evil or influence but as a personal being actively opposing God's purposes. In Job 1:7-12, we see him presenting himself before God, indicating his personhood and agency. Further, Jesus speaks of him as a real presence during His temptation in the wilderness (Luke 4:1-13), showing that Jesus Himself acknowledged the devil's reality. Additionally, passages like 1 Peter 5:8 warn believers to be vigilant against the devil, described as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. Through these passages, the Bible provides ample evidence for understanding the devil's real and active participation in the world.
