How do we know the effectiveness of prayer and fasting?

Answered in 1 source

Prayer and fasting are shown to be effective through biblical examples that demonstrate God's responsiveness to heartfelt supplication.

The effectiveness of prayer and fasting is evidenced throughout Scripture, where individuals who earnestly sought God were met with His grace and intervention. For instance, the story of David in 2 Samuel illustrates that his sincere prayers while fasting for his child's recovery were indicative of his desperate need for God's mercy. While the child ultimately died, David's actions reveal a heart dedicated to seeking God sincerely. Jesus also teaches that approaching God in earnest prayer, accompanied by fasting, can move mountains (Matthew 17:20). Therefore, the connection between earnest seeking through prayer and fasting and obtaining an answer from God is a consistent theme found in Scripture.
