How do we know the fear of God is true?

Answered in 2 sources

True fear of God is demonstrated by a believer's response to Christ, a desire for righteousness, and the sincerity of their worship.

The authenticity of the fear of God can be assessed through its effects on a believer's life. A true fear of God compels individuals to flee to Christ rather than away from Him, recognizing their need for His righteousness over their self-righteousness. This fear promotes a substantial desire for knowing Christ, understanding that nothing is as important as a relationship with Him. Additionally, it leads to a genuine detestation of evil and a departure from sinful behaviors, as Proverbs 16:6 states that the fear of the Lord causes men to turn away from iniquity. Ultimately, if one’s fear of God leads to sincere worship that springs from the heart, it is indicative of a genuine reverence for the Lord.
