How do we know the gift of tongues is no longer necessary?

Answered in 1 source

The cessation of the gift of tongues is understood because the complete Scriptures provide a more certain word of prophecy, eliminating the need for such miraculous signs.

In the early church, the gift of tongues was essential for the apostles to preach the gospel across languages they had not learned. However, with the completion of Scripture, as indicated by Peter in his writings, the need for this miraculous ability diminished. Today, we have the full counsel of God in the Bible, allowing preachers to teach and edify the church without the need for special linguistic gifts. The emphasis has shifted to the faithful preaching and teaching of God's Word as the primary means of communication and understanding.
