How do we know the gifts of the Holy Spirit are still relevant today?

Answered in 1 source

While some gifts were specific to the early church, the Holy Spirit's presence and power continue to be vital in the lives of believers today.

The relevance of the Holy Spirit's gifts today is understood through the completion of Scripture and the continued work of the Spirit in the lives of believers. While certain miraculous gifts, such as speaking in tongues, served a specific purpose in the early church to validate the apostles and their message, the Holy Spirit’s role in empowering believers remains unchanged. His presence is still evident through the transformative work in the hearts of believers, enabling them to preach, serve, and live out the gospel effectively.

1 Corinthians 13:10 teaches that when that which is perfect has come (the completed Scripture), the need for certain miraculous gifts has ceased. However, the essential roles of the Holy Spirit—enabling, guiding, and comforting believers—are as necessary now as they were in biblical times. The ongoing empowerment for evangelism, service, and spiritual growth in the Christian life is attributed to the same Holy Spirit who worked during Pentecost, affirming His relevance in the church today.
