How do we know the gifts of the Spirit are still active today?

Answered in 1 source

While the office of prophet as established in biblical times has ceased, the gifts of preaching and teaching remain active in the church.

The New Testament indicates that Jesus Christ bestowed gifts upon the church, including roles like pastors and teachers, which are essential for the edification of believers (Ephesians 4:11). The nature of prophecy has evolved from foretelling to forth-telling, meaning that preachers today fulfill a prophetic role by proclaiming the revealed Word of God. While there are no continuing prophetic offices in the strict sense since John the Baptist, the church still functions with those gifted in teaching and preaching, which are vital for leading the congregation and conveying God's truth to the world that needs guidance.
