How do we know the gifts of the Spirit are still applicable today?

Answered in 1 source

While some gifts were meant for a specific era to establish the church, gifts like teaching, faith, and administering are still vital for believers today.

The gifts of the Holy Spirit were primarily intended to affirm the apostles' authority and to lay the foundation of the church during the apostolic age. As seen in Ephesians 2:20, the church is built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets with Christ as the cornerstone. However, some gifts, such as teaching, wisdom, and faith, are enduring and continue to be relevant for the church today. These gifts help the body of Christ grow in spiritual knowledge and maturity. When Scripture is completed, the miraculous gifts cease as they served their purpose in the early church. Today, the focus remains on the permanent gifts that aid in ministering and upholding the truth of the Gospel.
