How do we know the goodness of God is true?

Answered in 2 sources

We experience God's goodness through the fulfillment of His promises in our lives.

The assurance of God's goodness is rooted in the testimony of those who have experienced His grace. As indicated in the sermon, the shepherds praised God not just for the message they heard, but also for what they had personally witnessed in Jesus. This agreement between the gospel message and personal experience provides a strong basis for our faith in the goodness of God. For instance, Jesus promises rest and peace to those who come to Him, and many believers can attest to receiving that same rest in their own lives.

In essence, our understanding of God's character is shaped by the tangible experiences we have as we walk in faith. Each believer's testimony, much like that of the shepherds, can affirm that the reality of Christ's saving work is far richer than what we hear described in scripture. When we see Christ in His beauty, our hearts are compelled to acknowledge His goodness, leading to a response of praise and thanksgiving. This interplay of hearing and experiencing helps us affirm the truth of God's goodness in our lives.
