How do we know the gospel is about sin and Christ, not just heaven and hell?

Answered in 1 source

The gospel centers on Christ’s redemptive work for sin, not merely on avoiding hell or attaining heaven.

The essence of the gospel is not merely a ticket to heaven but the reconciliation of humanity to Christ. As Paul stated, he preached repentance toward God and faith in Jesus Christ, emphasizing the need for a heart transformation rather than a fear of eternal punishment. The focus of understanding eternal life should be a personal union with Christ, as Jesus Himself defined eternal life in John 17:3. Therefore, a true gospel must address sin's power over our lives and present Christ as our sole mediator and redeemer.
