How do we know the Gospel is not about easy salvation?

Answered in 1 source

The Gospel requires true repentance and acknowledgment of sin, not just a simple acceptance of Christ.

Many modern evangelistic messages present the Gospel as an easy transaction—accepting Christ purely for salvation from hell without a corresponding repentance from sin. Scripture strongly opposes this notion, illustrating that the call to salvation includes a heartfelt repudiation of sin (Luke 13:3). True repentance is essential, as it signifies an inner conviction of sin and a desire to forsake it. The demand for repentance aligns with Christ’s ministry, which emphasized that one must recognize their sinfulness before coming to Christ. Therefore, the Gospel must teach individuals about their own corruption and need for transformation, rather than simply assuring them of a carefree existence without deeper accountability to God.
