How do we know the Holy Spirit guides our decisions?

Answered in 1 source

The Holy Spirit guides believers by directing their paths and providing confirmation in line with God's Word.

In Acts 21, we see the interplay of Paul's journey and the warnings given by disciples through the Spirit not to go to Jerusalem. This highlights that the Holy Spirit actively guides believers. In scripture, particularly in Romans 8:14, we are reminded that those led by the Spirit are children of God. When discerning the Holy Spirit’s guidance, it is vital that it aligns with the truths of Scripture and is confirmed by other believers.

Moreover, the Spirit may use circumstances, wise counsel, and a believer’s inner conviction to clarify His will. It is essential to remain sensitive to these promptings and to test them against the Word of God. The assurance comes from actively engaging in prayer, community, and Scripture, where believers can find clarity and confidence in the Spirit’s leading. Just like how Paul was directed, we too can trust that the Holy Spirit will lead us in accordance with His sovereign purposes.
