How do we know the Holy Spirit is actively working in our lives?

Answered in 1 source

We discern the Holy Spirit's active work in our lives through the peace, comfort, and joy we receive from Christ during trials.

The active work of the Holy Spirit in our lives is often manifested through the peace and comfort He provides in times of tribulation and sorrow. When we experience distress or guilt, it is the Holy Spirit who reassures us by applying the atoning blood of Christ to our consciences, enabling us to feel His presence intimately. This assurance manifests as a deep-seated joy and a lifting of burdens, indicative of the Spirit’s work in transforming our hearts and minds toward Christ.

Moreover, the Holy Spirit provides us with fresh revelations of Jesus during challenging times. When we are weighed down by circumstances, we might experience a deeper understanding or a clearer vision of Christ's love and grace. This can lead to moments when the storms in our lives fade, replaced by serenity and joy. The Spirit’s ability to glorify Christ within us, and His action of guiding our thoughts toward the Savior, validates His active presence in the life of every believer, affirming our faith and relationship with God.
