How do we know the Holy Spirit is involved in anointing?

Answered in 1 source

The Holy Spirit's involvement in anointing is evidenced by its use in the ministry of Jesus and the empowerment of believers.

Throughout the Bible, anointing oil represents the work of the Holy Spirit. In Luke 4:18, Jesus states, 'The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me...' This demonstrates that His ministry was empowered by the Holy Spirit. Additionally, believers are also anointed by the Holy Spirit, as seen in 1 John 2:20, where John writes, 'You have an anointing from the Holy One.' This anointing assures believers of their identity in Christ and guides them in understanding spiritual truths, thereby confirming the essential role of the Holy Spirit in the anointing process.
