How do we know the Holy Spirit is the director of gospel missions?

Answered in 1 source

Acts 13:2 explicitly shows that the Holy Spirit is the one who called and sent out missionaries.

In Acts 13:2, while the church leaders of Antioch were worshiping and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, 'Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.' This clear directive showcases that it is the Holy Spirit who initiates and directs the efforts of gospel missions. The involvement of the Holy Spirit in the commissioning of Paul and Barnabas also underscores that true missionary work emanates from God's will and not merely human ambition. The context encapsulates that no denomination or board can claim authority over God's sovereign calling, which rests solely with the Holy Spirit.
