How do we know the hope of the gospel is true?

Answered in 3 sources

The hope of the gospel is true because it is based on God's unchanging Word and the accomplished work of Jesus Christ.

The truth of the hope of the gospel rests on the immutable nature of God and His promises. In 2 Corinthians 1:20, it's stated that all the promises of God find their yes in Christ. This underscores that what God has promised is fulfilled in Him, providing the assurance that believers can rely on. Furthermore, personal experience of grace and regeneration enhances this hope, as salvation is sustained and secured not by our own efforts but by Christ’s intercessory work (Hebrews 7:25). Therefore, the believer's assurance and hope must be anchored in Scripture, which remains steadfast and unchanging, rather than fluctuating feelings or experiences.
