How do we know the love of God is comforting for Christians?

Answered in 1 source

The love of God is a source of comfort for Christians because it is demonstrated through the sacrificial death of Christ for our sins.

In Romans 5:8, we learn that 'God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.' This act of love provides assurance and hope, knowing that God's love is not just an abstract concept but is actively saving. Unlike the common belief that God loves everyone equally yet allows some to perish, sovereign grace teaches that His love effectively saves His chosen people. Thus, the love of God becomes a source of genuine comfort, as we realize that it leads to our justification and security in Him.
