How do we know the new covenant is superior to the old covenant?

Answered in 6 sources

The new covenant is superior because it is established on Christ's perfect obedience and offers true transformation, unlike the old covenant which depended on human performance.

The superiority of the new covenant over the old is emphasized in Hebrews 8:7-8, where it is clear that the first covenant contained faults due to the failure of those who were under it, namely, Israel. The old covenant required perfect obedience, which mankind could not fulfill, leading to its inadequacy in effecting true salvation. In contrast, the new covenant, established through Jesus Christ, provides a perfect and everlasting promise whereby God inscribes His laws in the hearts of His people, allowing for genuine spiritual change. This means that while the old covenant pointed to the need for a savior, the new covenant fulfills that need through Christ, ensuring that those who are part of this covenant are secure in their relationship with God based on His grace alone.
