How do we know the righteousness of God is essential for salvation?

Answered in 1 source

The righteousness of God is essential for salvation because it provides the basis for forgiveness and justification.

The righteousness of God is vital because it frames God's dealings with sinners. As articulated in the sermon, God's justice requires that sin be dealt with justly; hence, our sins must be judged. However, to preserve His mercy, God provided Christ as a substitute to bear the penalty of our sin. This concept is outlined in Romans 3:26, where Paul states that God is just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus. Without the righteousness of God being imputed to believers, they remain under the judgment for their sins. Thus, through faith in Christ's sacrificial work, believers are clothed in God's righteousness, enabling their acceptance before Him.
