How do we know the sacrifice of Christ is necessary?

Answered in 1 source

The necessity of Christ's sacrifice is rooted in biblical truths about sin and the need for atonement as shown in the sacrifices of the Old Testament.

The New Testament teaches us that without the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sins (Hebrews 9:22). Throughout the Old Testament, sacrifices were instituted as a means of atonement for sin, pointing forward to the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus Christ. In Jephthah's narrative, the vow he made indicates an acknowledgment of the need for a substantial sacrifice for deliverance. Jephthah knew that the price of redemption is high, which reflects the larger theme that true deliverance requires sacrifice. Jesus fulfilled this requirement through His perfect obedience and His willing sacrifice on the cross, whereby He took upon Himself the sins of those whom the Father had given Him.
