How do we know the significance of the red heifer in Christianity?

Answered in 1 source

The red heifer foreshadows Christ's sacrificial death and its implications for purification.

The significance of the red heifer in Christianity is rooted in its role as a foreshadowing of Christ's sacrifice. Just as the red heifer was to be without blemish and used for purification, Christ, the flawless Lamb of God, was sacrificed to cleanse us from our sins. The ashes of the heifer were applied to the unclean, just as the blood of Christ is applied to believers to purify them from ongoing sin and guilt. This illustrates that before we were even aware of our sin, Christ's atoning death had already provided the means for our purification.
