How do we know the spirit of God?

Answered in 1 source

We recognize the spirit of God by the truth of the gospel, which believers hear and accept, distinguishing it from error.

The spirit of God can be discerned through the acceptance of the truth presented in the gospel. In 1 John 4:6, it states, 'We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us.' This highlights that those who are truly of God are attuned to the gospel and will naturally resonate with those who proclaim it rightly. This ability to discern is not a result of human wisdom but comes from being indwelt by the Holy Spirit, who guides believers into all truth. Thus, our relationship with God enables us to discern error from truth, the spirit of truth from the spirit of error.
