How do we know the true gospel is taught?

Answered in 1 source

We can identify the true gospel by its fruit, which is the doctrine consistent with Christ's teachings.

To determine whether the true gospel is being taught, we must assess the doctrine being presented, as Jesus teaches in Matthew 7:16-20. The fruits of a prophet or teacher reveal their true nature; a good tree produces good fruit, representing sound doctrine. This means that we should evaluate the teachings of those who claim to speak on behalf of God against the foundational truths of Scripture. Paul's admonition in 2 John 9 also emphasizes that anyone who does not abide in the doctrine of Christ ultimately does not have God. Therefore, a faithful and true teaching of the gospel will center on Christ's atoning work and his righteousness alone as the basis for salvation.
