How do we know the work of the Holy Spirit is genuine?

Answered in 2 sources

We can discern the genuine work of the Holy Spirit through the focus on Christ and the resulting conviction of sin and need for repentance.

The authenticity of the Holy Spirit's work is revealed not through subjective feelings but through its focus on Christ and His redemptive work. Zechariah 12:10 indicates that the Spirit will draw attention to Him whom we have pierced, emphasizing that true spiritual encounters always redirect us to the person and work of Christ. The Spirit's ministry leads to a deep conviction of our sinfulness and our desperate need for Christ's righteousness. Any experience claiming to be of the Holy Spirit that does not highlight the glory of Christ or aligns with Scriptural truths should be scrutinized. Genuine spiritual experiences will glorify Christ and lead to a humble acknowledgment of our sinful condition and reliance on His grace.
