How do we know true converts from false ones?

Answered in 1 source

True converts produce spiritual fruit that reflects their faith and trust in Christ, while false converts exhibit self-reliance and works without genuine faith.

The distinction between true converts and false converts can often be discerned by examining the fruit produced in their lives. In Matthew 7:15-20, Jesus warns against false prophets and instructs His followers to recognize them by their fruits. A true believer, born again by the Spirit of God, will exhibit genuine transformation—resulting in the fruits of the Spirit such as love, joy, and peace—indicative of a faith rooted in Christ. In contrast, false converts might display outwardly moral or charitable behaviors, but these are not rooted in a true heart transformation and often stem from self-serving motives. Thus, the quality of one's ministry and the lives of those affected serve as indicators of the fruit being demonstrated.
