How do we know true faith in Christ is distinct from hypocrisy?

Answered in 1 source

True faith is evidenced by genuine soul trouble, delight in God, and habitual prayer, unlike the masking of hypocrisy.

In Job 27:9-10, the marks of true faith illuminate how it contrasts with hypocrisy. A genuine believer experiences soul trouble, consistently seeking God's favor and grappling with their sins. Unlike the hypocrite, who is complacent until facing dire circumstances, the true believer wrestles with their soul from the moment of regeneration. Additionally, true believers delight in God, finding joy in His grace and sovereignty, which a hypocrite cannot genuinely experience. Finally, habitual prayer marks the believer's life; they consistently call upon God, unlike the hypocrite who often only prays out of convenience or at times of crisis. These aspects create a firm distinction between real faith and the facade of hypocrisy.
