How do we know true repentance is present in confession?

Answered in 1 source

True repentance is evident when confession leads to a change in behavior and a genuine turning towards God.

True repentance is characterized by a heartfelt acknowledgment of sin and a sincere desire to turn away from it. In the sermon, it is noted that not all confessions of sin are genuine; some are merely expressions made under duress or for selfish reasons. For instance, Pharaoh confessed his sin out of fear but did not experience true repentance. In contrast, true believers demonstrate repentance through a changed life, as seen in the story of the prodigal son, who acknowledged his sins against his father and sought restoration. Genuine confession results in a life transformed by grace, desiring to forsake sin and pursue righteousness, confirming the work of God within us.
