How do we know we are different from the world?

Answered in 1 source

Christians are not of the world, as Jesus prayed for their protection from its evil (John 17:16-17).

Believers are fundamentally different from those who are not in Christ, as indicated by Jesus' statement in John 17:16, 'They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.' This difference arises from their new identity as children of God who are called out from the world. It encompasses a different standing, spirit, master, citizenship, aim in life, and destiny. Christians are positioned in Christ, engaging with the world without conforming to its standards and values, driven instead by a desire to glorify God and live out their faith authentically.
