How do we know we are forgiven by God?

Answered in 3 sources

We know we are forgiven if we confess our sins and believe that God is faithful and just to forgive us.

Assurance of forgiveness comes from trusting God's promises. 1 John 1:9 states, 'If we confess our sin, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sin and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.' This verse highlights that God’s faithfulness is the key to assurance, not our feelings or deeds. It is through genuine confession and reliance on God’s character that we can rest in the knowledge of our forgiveness. Our assurance also grows as we experience the transformative effects of God’s grace in our lives, leading us to joyful obedience and trust in His Word.
