We know we are friends of Jesus through our faith in Him and His sacrifice for our sins.
To be recognized as a friend of Jesus, we must believe in Him and accept His work on our behalf. Romans 5:8 assures us that, 'but God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.' This signifies that even when we were His enemies, Christ demonstrated His love by dying for us, effectively making us His friends through reconciliation. It is through faith and acceptance of our unworthiness that we come to embrace Him as our Savior and friend. As Philippians 2:7 states, He humbled Himself and took on our likeness, thus bridging the gap between God and man, making true friendship possible.
