How do we know we are God's friends?

Answered in 1 source

We know we are God's friends because Jesus laid down His life for us and we are called to keep His commandments.

The assurance of being a friend of God is rooted in the sacrificial love of Christ. In John 15:13, Jesus declares that 'greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.' If you are a believer who acknowledges your sinfulness and trusts in Christ's finished work, you are among those whom He calls friends. Additionally, verse 14 states, 'You are my friends if you do whatsoever I command you,' which means that true friendship with God involves obedience that stems from love and faith in Him. As Christians, our acceptance as friends is not based on our merit, but on the fulfillment of the law by Christ, which is imputed to us as righteousness.
