How do we know we are of the truth according to Scripture?

Answered in 1 source

We know we are of the truth when we hear Christ’s voice and obey His commandments.

In 1 John 3:19-24, John assures us that assurance of our salvation and standing before God comes from the inner witness of the Holy Spirit and our responses to Christ’s commands. Those who are truly of the truth will naturally obey Christ and love the brethren, as these are the evidences of genuine faith. This is further emphasized when John states that if our hearts condemn us, God is greater than our hearts—indicating that our assurance lies not in our feelings but in our relationship with Him and His transformative work in our lives through the Spirit. Such an assurance is deeply rooted in communion with Christ, leading to an active faith expressed in love.
