How do we know we are sinful before God?

Answered in 1 source

We know we are sinful because Scripture reveals our depravity and inability to please God apart from His grace.

The Bible consistently reveals the sinful nature of humanity, stating in Romans 3:10, 'There is none righteous, no, not one.' We are confronted with our sinful state through divine revelation, as God uses His Word to expose our hearts. In Psalm 51, David expresses a deep awareness of his transgressions, acknowledging that he is shaped in iniquity. This self-awareness is not just an emotional state but a genuine understanding granted by the Holy Spirit, leading to the acknowledgment of our desperate need for a Savior to cleanse us from our iniquities. Without this revelation, we would remain blind to our sinfulness and incapable of seeking God’s mercy.
