How do we know we are worthy to take Communion?

Answered in 1 source

We are worthy to take Communion when we come to the Lord acknowledging our sinfulness and relying on Christ's righteousness.

Worthy participation in the Lord's Supper is not about achieving a state of moral perfection but recognizing our ongoing need for Christ's righteousness. In 1 Corinthians 11:27-28, Paul emphasizes the importance of self-examination and understanding the significance of the Supper. To be worthy means to approach the table with an awareness of our sins, confessing them before God, and trusting in Christ’s redemption. This trust, not our moral state, is the basis of our worthiness, reflecting the theological underpinnings of sovereign grace where our hope is founded in the work of Christ and not our own accomplishments.
