How do we know we have everlasting life?

1 John is a rich source for understanding assurance of salvation. John asserts repeatedly that we can know we have eternal life (1 John 5:13). This assurance is rooted not in feelings but in the reality of our relationship with Christ; 'he that hath the Son hath life.' Fellowship with Christ and His people also serves as evidence of this life.
