How do we know we have passed from death to life?

Answered in 6 sources

We know we have passed from death to life by our love for the brethren and our desire for fellowship with fellow believers.

The assurance that we have moved from death to life is fundamentally linked to our love for other Christians. As articulated in 1 John 3:14, the love manifested towards the brethren serves as evidence of authentic faith. When the light of Christ illuminates a person's heart, it ignites a desire for fellowship with like-minded believers and a withdrawal from the alienation of worldly pursuits. This change is a key indicator of true regeneration and reflects the work of the Holy Spirit in a believer’s life. The love for others is not just a sentiment but is indicative of spiritual life in contrast to a prior existence characterized by death in sin.
