How do we receive forgiveness according to the Bible?

Answered in 1 source

Forgiveness is granted to those who come to Christ in repentance and faith, trusting in His mercy.

The Bible teaches that access to forgiveness comes through faith in Jesus Christ. 1 John 1:9 assures us that if we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us. This means that true repentance and trust in Christ's redemptive work secures our pardon. The emphasis here is on approaching God empty-handed, recognizing our total need for His grace rather than relying on our own righteousness (Ephesians 2:8-9). This cry for mercy is always met with assurance and grace for those who genuinely seek Him.
