How do we receive the Holy Spirit?

Answered in 2 sources

We receive the Holy Spirit by believing the gospel and trusting in Christ for salvation.

Receiving the Holy Spirit is fundamentally tied to faith in Jesus Christ. As seen in Galatians 3:2, believers receive the Spirit upon hearing the gospel and believing it. This is not through works of the law but through the grace of God. When we believe, we are sealed with the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:13), indicating that He is given to every true believer, marking them as God's possession. Thus, the act of receiving the Holy Spirit is an integral part of the salvation experience, initiated by God and received through faith.
