How do we understand the need for a ruler in our lives?

Answered in 1 source

Humans have an inherent need for order and guidance due to God’s design for authority.

Since creation, God established order, and He created man with an inherent need for rule and direction (Genesis 1:1). This need persists even after the fall, revealing a deep yearning for guidance that only the true God can fulfill. In the absence of proper authority, individuals may turn to false images of divinity or man-made gods to fill the void. God has ordained that authority figures, like pastors, should guide His people, reflecting His ultimate authority and wisdom. Understanding this divine structure is vital for recognizing our need for the truth and the means by which God nourishes our souls.
