How do we understand the relationship between faith and works?

Answered in 1 source

Faith is the means by which we receive grace, while works are the fruit of that faith, proving its authenticity.

In Reformed theology, salvation is by grace through faith, and importantly, this faith is never alone. True faith will result in good works—these works do not save, but they serve as evidence of a transformative relationship with Christ. The Bible teaches that faith without works is dead (James 2:26), which indicates that genuine faith manifests itself through a change in conduct. Thus, while works cannot earn salvation, they confirm the believer's identity in Christ and the inward change wrought by the Holy Spirit.
